Q4 2024 Dividend Income Update

Image
As 2024 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on what has been a phenomenal year for investors. The S&P 500 delivered an exceptional year-to-date return of 28%, far surpassing its historical average annual return of 7.9% since 1928. This remarkable performance is a testament to the resilience and dynamism of the market, particularly in a year filled with economic uncertainties.

Q3 2024 Dividend Income Update: Steady Growth and New Strategies

Image
Time really flies—it's hard to believe we're already in Q4 of 2024! As the year marches on, it's time for another update on my dividend income. In this post, I will be sharing how my investments performed in Q3 and reflect on the progress of my passive income journey. The third quarter has been challenging for many investors, with inflationary pressures, interest rates, and geopolitical tensions driving market fluctuations. Despite these headwinds, my dividend portfolio remained a source of reliable income. Diversification and a focus on quality dividend stocks helped buffer the impact of market turbulence.

2024 Dividends Update: Q1 and Q2 Recap and Insights

Image
Life has been incredibly busy, and I haven't had the chance to provide updates on my dividend income for Q1 and Q2 of 2024. However, I'm excited to share my progress now and give you a comprehensive look at how things have been shaping up so far this year. Let's dive into the details, starting with my taxable account.

Unveiling My Dividend Journey: A Two-Year Review and Q3 Update

Image
The last time I shared my financial journey was in the first quarter of 2020. Since then, life has taken me on an unexpected rollercoaster ride. Over the past couple of years, I've had to make some challenging decisions, including selling a significant portion of my investments in 2021 and 2022 to address immediate real-life challenges.  Now, as things are settling down and I finally have a moment to reflect, I've taken the opportunity to review and consolidate my financial data from the past three years. It's time for me to assess my current financial position.

Capitalizing on Market Volatility: Boosting Portfolio Yield and Q1 Dividend Triumph

Image
The recent market turbulence has been quite unsettling, with a noticeable 20% decline in my investment portfolio. While I have often reassured myself by citing my long-term commitment to index funds, the truth is that this significant drop has instilled a sense of fear and unease within me. Furthermore, there's the looming concern of potential dividend reductions in the near future, and I sincerely hope that these do not have a substantial impact on the dividends generated by my index funds. This situation has challenged my previously unwavering confidence in the stability of index fund investments and has led me to reevaluate my perspective on market volatility and its effects on my financial well-being. In the first quarter of 2020, I decided to exit my position in AGNC, which had been my initial foray into the world of dividend investing. AGNC had initially piqued my interest due to its enticing yield. My recollection places my cost basis at around $30 per share, but shortly...

2019 Q4 / (September – December) Dividend Report

Image
With the stock market reaching all-time I continued to sell some of my positions to compensate for the losses I accumulated over the years. In my days as day trader I was big on pharmaceutical stocks; I did make some money but also accumulated losses. Pharma stocks are super high risks and if they fail to reach clinical trials it is end of the road.

2019 Q2 / (April – June) Dividend Report

I mentioned in my last quarter update that there were some life changes. One of the life changes has been the birth of my son baby DG. It’s an awesome feeling to be a father. He was born small for Gestational Age and had to be constantly monitored for the first 48 hours. He has since gained weight and is healthy. I am happy to grow my family but I also need to look at the financial impacts.

2018 Q4 / (October – December) Dividend Report

Image
As I mentioned in my Q3 update I have switched jobs and I no longer have the time for stock picking. Luckily investing in index ETFs does not require too much time. We have started renting again, after much deliberation we decided to sell our home. I had to expend some of my investment money for moving expenses, repairs and closing costs. In addition, for a period of time we were paying rent and mortgage. Considering these additional expenses I was unable to hit my investment goals for Q4.

2018 Q3 / (July – September) Dividend Report

Image
I landed a new job in September! I had relocate to make my commute bearable. With the entire move I have been lax with my investments. Additionally, I had to increase my cash positions to handle moving expenses. All this had a positive effect on my interest income (there is always a silver lining!). I got $325.64 in dividends in my taxable account. My Roth IRA continues to grow albeit slowly. I received $30.61 in dividends in my Roth IRA.

2018 Q2 / (April – June) Dividend Report

Image
I finally got some interest income from my money market account. I was a little lax with investing in Q2 and as such ended up accumulating cash positions. I got $343.73 in dividends in my taxable account. This is an all-time high for any quarter. My previous best was 2017 Q4 with $228.07 . This record is even better considering I achieved it in Q2. I am pretty much guaranteed to beat this record again in Q4 (dividend heavy for ETFs). This is only my second quarter where I received dividends from my retirement account (IRA) . I received $25.84 in dividends in my Roth IRA. In terms of diversification, international ETF (VXUS) lead the way and contributed 42.22% of the dividends. VXUS tends to pay high dividends in Q2 and Q3. The US dividends are spread equally between my value fund and S&P 500 fund. High yield fund is slowly moving up and I am hoping to see it make a larger contribution in the future quarters. All together I received $369.57 in dividends in 2018 Q2.

2018 Q1 / March Dividend Report

Finally! Time for my first dividend report! I own ETFs in my portfolio which pays quarterly dividends. Q1 has had significant market turmoil. I saw it as excellent buying opportunities for long term investors. It’s a way increase the overall portfolio yield.

2017 Q4 / December Dividend Update

December is here and its time for my final 2017 quarterly dividend update. Cannot believe 2017 is almost over. My portfolio is composed of vanguard ETFs which pay dividends on a quarterly basis.

2017 Q3 Dividend update

Image
It's September, summer is coming to an end. Time for my quarterly dividend update. For the past 3 months I have been happily following the dividend updates from my fellow bloggers. Seems like it took forever for vanguard to payout dividends.Typically Q2 and Q4 are best for vanguard mutual funds. Q1 and Q3 are reasonable.

2017 Q2 / June Dividend update

Image
2017 Q2 is coming to an end and my mutual funds have payed out their dividends. It's time for me to take stock of the progress I have made in 2017 Q2 and the way ahead. Since, I own mutual funds my dividends are on quarterly basis. So, this post also doubles up for my June dividend update.

Dividend Income Update – 2017 Q1

This quarter is very important and special for me. I have been dividend investing since 2015, but it's only the second time that I have been able to consistently save and add to my portfolio. Since, I have already written a post on my dividend income for March 2017 , this post is mostly about my Quarter On Quarter (QOQ) performance.
